Marketing Research Agency has prepared a fresh Analysis of the Corrugated Paper Market in Russia.
In 2016-2020. fluting output in Russia increased by 27.8%, namely, from 1,552 to 1,984 thousand tons.
The reason for the growth in 2016-2019. there was a steady demand for the products of domestic manufacturers of corrugated board and corrugated packaging. The largest increase in the production of corrugated paper was recorded in 2020 – by 10.4% or 187.3 thousand tons compared to the previous year.
In 2020, despite the economic crisis, the production of corrugated cardboard containers continued to grow due to the increased demand for packaging for the delivery of essential goods, groceries and ready-made food.
Moreover, an increase in the output of paper for corrugating was facilitated by the growth of interest in Russian products from China, where in 2020 190.3 thousand tons of corrugated paper left the Russian Federation.
Some papermakers are starting to diversify their production towards packaging materials. Thus, the Volga pulp and paper mill plans to increase the output of packaging paper to 60% of its total production.
Previously, the main product of the plant was newsprint, the decline in demand for which was accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis.
Volga plans to increase production of paper for corrugated board, focusing on China as the main consumer of products.
Also, the Kondopoga PPM reported on the diversification of production, whose revenue fell in 2020 due to a decrease in demand for newsprint.
It is expected that in 2021-2025. production of paper for corrugating in Russia will grow by 3.7-4.5% per year and in 2025 will amount to 2,430 thousand tons.
